About Us
Building the American Dream Since 1942
THE HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF DAYTON AND THE MIAMI VALLEY (HBA) is dedicated to the propositions that
- Every American family deserves decent, safe and affordable housing.
- Every new home or apartment should be built at the highest level of quality.
- The work of HBA members will be accomplished at the highest levels of ethics and professionalism.
Advocacy
Founded in 1942, the HBA works with local governments at the county, municipal and township level to advance the interests of the home building industry, discourage needless regulation, and otherwise create and sustain a builder-friendly environment in the Miami Valley.
Award-Winning Home Shows
The Association's award-winning home shows -- HOMEARAMA, Citirama and Rehabarama -- have drawn more than a million visitors over the past 15 years. Citirama and Rehabarama have won the highest national awards of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
30,000 jobs
The HBA represents nearly 900 member firms - 150 firms engaged primarily in new residential construction, and 750 firms providing products, services, materials or skilled craftsmanship related to new home construction. HBA members employ more than 30,000 men and women in full-time jobs across the Miami Valley.
First point of contact on home building
The HBA serves as the community's first point of contact for information on new construction, and the Association annually screens thousands of calls for area consumers looking for advice and direction in the selection of a builder.
Economic development
The Association also works effectively with other local organizations dedicated to economic development. The HBA is actively involved with the Miami Valley Economic Development Corporation, County Corp, CityWide Development and other economic development agencies.
Giving back to the community
Through its philanthropic arm, the Home Builders Foundation, Inc, the HBA also supports the work of several shelter-based and other philanthropic organizations, including Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April, Dayton Habitat for Humanity, the St. Mary Development Corporation, Valley Food Relief, the Juvenile Diabetes Fund and United Rehabilitation Services.
Value-added services
The HBA supports its members with a number of important value-added services in telecommunications, product and services advertising, auto and truck leasing, long distance services, and several lines of insurance products - workers' compensation, life, major medical and disability.
Continuing education
The Association also sponsors state-of-the art continuing education programs for its members on topics like building codes, industry safety, sales and remodeling, new technologies in residential construction and energy efficiency.
Job training and placement
The HBA also offers one of the Miami Valley's most successful job training and placement agencies. Over the course of the past four years, Project Hope has placed almost 500 individuals in full-time jobs in diverse placement settings - from skilled trades on construction job sites to administrative and professional positions among the area's lending institutions.
Councils
A number of HBA councils meet regularly to exchange views on common interests and concerns. These include the Montgomery County, Green County and Middletown Area Developers Council, the Sales and Marketing Council, the Remodelers Council, the Production Builders Council and the Custom Builders Council.
Registered Builder Program
The Association's Registered Builder Program is among the nation's leading consumer protection programs, with independent mediation and arbitration services provided through the Dayton Mediation Center.
